Quantrill's Raiders
William Quantrill and his raiders have been called everything from Blood Thirsty Murderers and Devils from Hell to Heros and Noble Southern Knights.
Those that would call him a murderer must have blinders on when it comes to reading of the atrocities commited by the Kansas Jayhawkers (also known as redlegs).
Like the story of atrocities commited at the Confederate Prison at Andersonville, the Northern side had their own terrible prisons, like the one at Rock Island, Ill.
My point is that it's very rarely a one sided story no matter how much some people try to make you think it is.
Betty Dorsett Duke's new book, The Truth About Jesse James also has new information concerning William Quantrill. See the main page for information regarding her book.
If you're interested in Quantrill's Raiders, another book that's full of information concerning them is titled: Branded As Rebels by Joanne Chiles Eakin and Donald R. Hale. They've also published a second edition, Volume II which has even more information. These books are a "MUST HAVE" for anyone researching Quantrill's Raiders. Both are great additions to my library.
